We are partnering with a highly respected, Australian-owned sovereign defence contractor. Specialising in advanced systems engineering, integration, and ongoing support, our client delivers mission-critical capability to the Australian Defence Force and related sectors. Due to sustained growth and new project demands, they are seeking a highly capable Field Service Representative to join their specialist support team.

The Role

As the Field Service Representative, you will be the on-site technical authority managing the health, maintenance, and operational readiness of advanced C4I (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence) and surveillance platforms.

This is a highly autonomous, field-based position requiring travel to various client sites and remote locations. You will act as the crucial link between the engineering team and the end-user, ensuring maximum system availability and fostering strong client relationships on the ground.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run scheduled preventative maintenance and unscheduled corrective maintenance on complex deployed systems.

  • Perform advanced fault-finding, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of electronic, RF, and IT network systems down to the Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) level.

  • Conduct system upgrades, software patching, and hardware modifications on client sites.

  • Act as the primary technical point of contact for site commanders and end-users.

  • Provide on-the-job training, technical advice, and coaching to client operators.

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate logs of all maintenance activities, defects, and configuration changes using dedicated management systems.

  • Generate detailed field service reports and technical investigations.

  • Manage local spare parts inventory to ensure rapid resolution of technical faults.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be a hands-on, methodical problem solver who thrives in high-pressure environments without the need for constant supervision. You must possess the technical depth to understand complex systems and the communication skills to translate that to non-technical stakeholders.

Key Requirements:

  • Security Clearance: An active Australian Department of Defence Security Clearance (NV1 or higher) is strictly required for this role.

  • Qualifications: Tertiary qualification (Degree, Diploma, or Certificate IV) in Electronics, Telecommunications, Systems Engineering, IT, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience: Proven background in a field service, technical support, or maintenance role, preferably within defence, aerospace, or heavy industry.

  • Technical Acumen: Strong ability to read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and complex system manuals.

  • Mobility: A valid Australian Driver’s License and a willingness to travel extensively, often at short notice.

What is on Offer

  • A highly autonomous role working with cutting-edge, mission-critical technology.

  • The opportunity to directly impact the operational readiness of the Australian Defence sector.

  • Competitive remuneration package tailored to your experience, plus travel allowances.

  • Long-term career stability with a leading sovereign defence contractor.

The candidate must be an Australian citizen and be eligible to obtain a security clearance or have a NV1 or Baseline Security Clearance.

If you're successful, you’ll join a collaborative team of highly experienced and talented professionals. If this role sounds enticing to you, please do not hesitate to apply now or send Rohan an email at Rohan.cantleysmith@randstad.com.au.
